Edwidge_Danticat AT THE CLARK WITH BRUCE AND ABIGAIL

We visited the Clark yesterday and had a fine day there.  We listened to Haitian American Edwidge Danticat in a conversation on her books and writing.  It was interesting, especially her response to the audience questions.

Bruce and Abigail went with us.

At lunch I coated my good pants with hot sauce. Very upsetting.

We also saw the glass in the Corning exhibit.

 I liked this very much.

And we saw some drawing by Degas.

JACKY COREY SMITH'S MEMORIAL

We went to Jacky Corey's Memorial service.  Robin and Bobbie were there.  Great to see them.

Jacky's family was there.  Sisters Candy and Chris (Fred), brother Rick, son Alex and granddaughter Olivia.  It was at a country Methodist church.  We did not go to the cemetery afterwards.

It was so grand to see all these people who I had not seen in many years.

I spoke as the last speaker.  Very satisfying.  I did better than I have done the last few times speaking.  I told the story of meeting Jacky by writing her a poem and sending it to her when she was sick in the infirmary.  I told of our one date to the ROTC ball in 1966 and her rushing back to the dorm without the chocolate I had brought.  And I talked of our one kiss which she did on impulse many years later when we were at the Rennaissance Fair.  Elizabeth was there.

We went up the day before so as to be sure to be on time.  It was a good choice.  Robin and Bobbie had a terrible drive through a wild rain storm and arrived minutes before the ceremony.

We stayed at a nice hotel at $200 (hopefully we will get a coupon of $20 from booking.com)

We ate at Wolfy's on Cayuga Lake right by the water with wind whipping cold.  It was great.

We went for a first time visit at Del Lago casino where playing off our $10 each freeplay for joining and Elizabeth's $20 cash ended with Elizabeth down $5 and Dewey up $60.

On the ride back we stopped at the Upstate Pub at Turning Stone.  Great food, including fry bread with spinach did and beef on weck.
The last of the journey was hard with rain in the dark, but we made it.
